Welcome to the new bloggED!

Last week, Texas Virtual Academy’s (TXVA) office in Lewisville, Texas hosted the 2017 National Head of School Leadership Summit. Led by K12’s School Services’ Lead360 Team, the event is an annual professional development opportunity that brings together leaders from across the company’s network of partner schools. The Summit affords leaders the opportunity to sharpen skills and reconnect with K12’s mission, vision, and values. Over 80 school-based, regional, and national staff attended. The theme of this year’s summit was “Leading for ImPACT!” (PACT referring to K12’s values which are Passion, Accountability, Courage, and Trust!)

Kevin Chavous, K12’s new President of Academics, Policy, and Schools, addressed attendees with inspirational words about his passion for education. Meeting and collaborating with staff throughout the Summit, Chavous emphasized his excitement about leveraging his new role to help K12-powered schools achieve excellence for all students.

“Kevin’s message included a recognition of the challenges we face, but also included great optimism and undying commitment to doing whatever we can to achieve our mission to transform the lives of every student served,” said Darren Reed, K12 Vice President of School Leadership Development.

The Summit’s keynote speaker was an entire K12-powered family! TXVA’s Stegnar family shared how their lives have been positively transformed since attending online school.

“The audience was emotionally moved by the Stegnar’s story,” shared Reed. “In fact, the family’s oldest daughter is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and her goal is to return to teach at TXVA!”

Participants left the Summit with knowledge, excitement, and readiness to lead with impact. Thanks to new and renewed connections to the larger network of K12 leaders, Heads of School are ready to get back to work to make a difference in the lives of their families and students!
