As teachers we have those moments that we worry we are not making much of a difference in the lives of our students.  But it only takes one student coming back after they leave to remember what the truth is.

Wyoming Virtual Academy is host to students of all talents and abilities.  Recently one of our WYVA grads, Jonathan, checked in to let me know how he has been since graduating in Spring 2016.  Jonathan shared that he was very busy as a college freshman and criminal justice major, and most exciting is that his dance career has really taken off – he was offered a video deal with Eman Musik and recently finished a video with hip hop artist LATRUTH.

As we all know, social media is a great venue for budding artists and dancers, and Jonathan is no exception!  Jonathan’s LATRUTH video had over 61,000 views in just a short time.

Jonathan was also featured by The Drop and Dytto in the Around My Way World of Dance Contest last spring.

I asked Jonathan to share in his own words a bit more about his experiences and how being a student at WYVA helped him to start reaching his goals:

“I reached my success in dancing mostly through social media,” he said. “All my life I have been dancing, but I started sharing it with the world back in 2011. I was a student at WYVA through my junior high and high school education. Without the flexibility, the wonderful teachers and in-depth education WYVA provided for me, I don’t think I could have found the time to reach my particular set of unique goals.

“Even though my goals still haven’t been fully attained yet, I feel very successful and satisfied with the gift of my talent. I can tell you all to never give up on what you strive to be, and always with most certainty put your education first. Wyoming Virtual Academy has made it very possible for me to attend college, and if my dancing continues to thrive I hope to open organizations who dance to raise money in the fight towards cancer research.”
