Meet William: Kung Fu champion! Nicole Haley and her son, William, have found that the only virtual public charter school in Washington, DC is just the right fit for this family.  Friendship Public Charter School Online (FPCSO) has students enrolled in kindergarten through grade eight. As William’s homeroom teacher, I would not have pondered that such a soft spoken, humble student would also be a martial arts champion!

“He just made the Dragon Force team, which has boosted his confidence leaps and bounds! His dedication to his sport has really helped him learn self-control, determination, and with his attitude,” Nicole shared with me.

Nicole found that William’s needs were not being met in traditional brick and mortar school. “He was completely under the radar in the general classroom. When he wasn’t reading by the end of first grade, I knew I needed to make a change. Now, he is a fluent reader,” she said.  “I tried homeschooling on my own and it was just overwhelming. With the online school, everything is set up for me as his learning coach, and the student plan is so well laid out,” reflected Nicole.

“I am teaching him life skills and molding him in the way that encompasses our family values. This school has a culture and feeling that works for our family.  The curriculum is awesome and has the flexibility we need. William is being set up to do whatever he wants with his life!”
