Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) 7th grader Aidan Frye has a unique hobby.  In his free time, he works as a cub reporter for Bear Essential News!

Bear Essential News is a monthly media outlet published by Kids’ View Communications Corporation that is designed to promote creativity, reading and writing skills for children and their families. Some of the student journalists also get to read their stories on TV during Bear Essential News: News 4 Kids segment on KVOA, Tucson’s NBC affiliate!

“He feels very accomplished when he finishes a story and sees it in the paper or gets to read it on air,” said his mother, Alison.

“I like being on TV!” Aidan said. “The stories I cover allow me to do things that lots of kids don’t always get to do.”

Aidan enrolled at AZVA this past January because of ongoing issues with bullying at his previous school and a need for a more challenging curriculum.

“Aidan needed more of a challenge; he learns at a fast pace,” Alison said. “He likes the challenge of getting his work done and the option to do more in one day.”

Aidan is currently writing a new piece for Bear Essential News about AZVA’s new Tucson Blended Learning Center.

Surprisingly, Aidan doesn’t necessarily see himself reporting news when he grows up. Aidan has always considered himself more of an inventor because of his interests in robots, playing with Legos, Nerf guns, and gardening.
