Kevin P. Chavous, K12’s President of Academics, Policy, and Schools delivered words of congratulations and encouragement to the 58 graduates of Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) on May 21st. LAVCA celebrated the Class of 2018 at an in-person commencement ceremony at the Independence Park Theatre in Baton Rouge.
“As LAVCA seniors get ready to take on the next chapter in their lives, the Class of 2018 is set up for success,” said Kevin. “It is gratifying to offer K12-powered students a personalized learning model that meets the diverse needs of all students.”
Among this year’s graduates, one quarter graduated with honors, and five students were the first in their families to receive a high school diploma. Members of the class plan on attending a number of colleges and universities, including: Northwestern University, University of New Orleans, Louisiana State University, McNeese State University, Utah State University, and Baton Rouge Community College.
Valedictorian Reagan Berry received the John McNeese Scholar Award from McNeese State University, where he plans to enroll this fall. Salutatorian Madeleine Brown will attend the University of New Orleans and received the President’s Award Scholarship. Both students, along with their classmate Jamerius Gaines, addressed the assembled LAVCA staff, family and friends.
Congratulations and the best of luck to LAVCA’s Class of 2018!
