Last week, an excited Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) family got to show their appreciation for Ohio State Representative Andrew Brenner. On behalf of the Ohio eSchool Families and Friends Coalition, the Dutcher family presented Brenner with the Golden Apple Award at a ceremony in Delaware County. This State Representative was chosen because of his unwavering support of school choice throughout his career.
Years ago, Tamela Dutcher enrolled her daughter at OHVA and has not thought about going back to brick and mortar school since. Dutcher values online schooling and legislators like Brenner.
“I love that my daughter gets to work at her own pace and isn’t distracted by the typical happenings of the brick and mortar classroom,” said Tamela. “Learning is made fun by the additional educational activities we now have time for, such as zoo school, science programs, music lessons and trying out new activities like tumbling or tennis from time to time. eSchooling allows us to help nurture my daughter’s interests – plus I get to spend quality time with her! We’re so thankful for Rep. Brenner’s constant support of our choice to school this way and grateful that we have this opportunity to present this award.”
The Golden Apple Award recognizes legislators who protect, not only educational choice but parental choice. By trusting parents, such lawmakers give children an opportunity to learn in the way that works best for them. These representatives deserve to know their efforts are appreciated when it comes to protecting the rights of families and choice in Ohio!
