All eyes were on Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) student Violet Rose Arma as she led the Pledge of Allegiance at graduation. Now, this talented 16-year-old salutatorian is attending two summer programs with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre before she heads to college in the fall. These programs include a two week Company Experience intensive, followed by a five week intensive, which began June 20th.

Violet, who has chosen to continue her online education by simultaneously dancing in the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s graduate program and completing classes online at Arizona State University (ASU), attributes much of her academic and dancing success to those at AZVA who helped her along the way.

“I felt a great sense of togetherness with each person at graduation,” Violet said. “It is incredible how many lives go into just one person’s education! At AZVA, the involvement of family and outside support is instrumental in student success, along with the learning coaches and online teachers.”

Violet has been with AZVA since the second grade. While the advantages of online schooling for Violet were numerous, her mother Julie Arma revealed that one of the most important things it provided Violet was safety. Julie reported that there were constant problems at brick and mortar schools in her area, including lockdowns caused by the presence of knifes and drugs in school.

“Online schooling is the best of everything; Violet can move at her own pace, and there is support all the time from the teachers via Skype and K-mail,” Julie said. “But safety for us as parents is the biggest thing.”

Violet completed a rigorous course load at AZVA, including many AP classes. The opportunity to take such classes will allow her to use transfer credits to help her complete a BA in Art History online at ASU. Violet decided to enroll in ASU Online because she thought it was important to enrich her life outside of dance.

“I would like to thank AZVA and K12 for making it possible for me to strive for my dreams and continue my education online,” Violet said. “There are so many things I could not have done without the help of the amazing instructors and online platform. AZVA has given me many of the tools I need in this new chapter of my life, and I am so grateful. There are so many new adventures out there, and I cannot wait to see what life has in store for me next!”
