Online High School: School Work, Social Life, and Sleep

In school I have often been reminded that there are three elements to life as a student: schoolwork, social life, and sleep. Sounds great, but here’s the catch: you can only choose two. Yikes! Unfortunately, I think that if most of us were honest with ourselves, we’d have to admit that well we don’t always balance those well enough. In high school this is especially true. All anyone wants to do is spend time with friends, but that means that either studies or sleep suffer.

So guess what I found out? When I was a part of an online school, I had a life! I had sufficient time for sleep, school, AND friends. I could sleep as much as I needed and then do my homework, while my friends were in school, and have time in the evenings to go do the fun social things. There are so many online students who have found over time, that a typical school day schedule takes far less time to get through, compared to their old more traditional school one, yet they are learning so much more!

Online Schooling: Freedom to Move at your own Pace

Okay, let’s be blunt for a moment.  School can sometimes feel like a waste of time.  Why?  The first reason may be thatit is challenging to sit and actually pay attention through five classes each day. I mean, how many teachers actually hold your attention through the whole hour every time?  Second, maybe you are bored because you were able to finish your assignment fifteen minutes into class and then realize that you have to sit there and wait for the hour to end.  Perhaps the third reason is that you struggle to understand the subject through the time in class and then spend hours with the homework each night, only to get a poor grade in the end.  These are serious issues that parents and students should be concerned about!

High School - A Day in the Life

When people find out that I am a graduate of an online school, they often ask "how many hours did you spend online?" or "how flexible was it?".

What I usually tell them is that  when you choose online school, you get to choose how it works for you.  You get to choose what and when.  After a little while, you'll know when you do your best work and what you'll be working on.  Every student is different, and needs to find the best schedule that fits his or her needs.  So here's how a day in the life of high school worked for me...
