Zach Veach: Ohio Virtual Academy Student and Race Car Driver Visits K12, Inc.

K12 Kids are Amazing: Meet Race Car Driver Zach Veach

Regularly highlighting the amazing kids that thrive while attending one of our online partner schools is the best way to show why parents need to have educational options for their children. This morning, K12 headquarter's employees had the special privledge of meeting one of our amazing students in person!

Zach Veach,  a 17 year old Ohio Virtual Academy high school student, race car driver for the Andretti Autosport team, author, and web app developer stopped by on his way to his upcoming race in Baltimore this weekend. Zach wasn't alone either -- he brought his race car, his Dad, and some of the crew that keeps his wheels in motion. 

Zach spoke to the K12 team about how being able to attend school online has helped him pursue something that has been his passion since he was four years old.  As a display of his smarts, he took time out of talking to the packed crowd, to ask our CEO and Founder of K12, Ron Packard, if he could write him an excused absence note for today since he was missing his first day of school orientation. Ron of course said yes! 

When I heard his father, Roger Veach, was also in the audience, I went on a hunt to meet him so I could hear about their overall experience from a parent's perspective.  Roger shared with me how much K12 has meant to him and his family.  You could tell just by talking to him how proud he is of his son and all he has accomplished.   I asked Mr. Veach about Zach and how he handles his school work in the midst of everything else he does. "Zach is a go-getter and doesn't need a lot of guidance in his studies. He is a self-starter and keeps himself on track."

By the way, I did ask if I could sit in the car, but his 'handlers' nixed that idea right away! Something about me being too big and the car being custom fit for Zach. Hmmf! 

Zach's visit provided extra inspiration to the many employees who got to spend some time with him this morning during our busiest time of the year!
