Announcing a Few Blog Improvements

This image was adapted from work by jphilipg on FlickrWhen I came on board here at K¹², one of the things I was asked to do was to take over management of the thinkTANK¹² blog. While I am responsible for publishing new content written by our awesome bloggers or deleting SPAM from our comments, I’ve thought a lot about how we can improve this blog for you, our readers.

Today we are pushing a few updates to this blog, and I wanted to let you know what they are and what you might notice is different.

First things first, we’re introducing a brand new comment system that we hope will make this blog a bit more interactive and fun. With the old comment system, you could add a new comment or reply to other comments as you would expect. However, if someone replied to your comment, you’d never know unless you came back to look for yourself.

Using our new comment system, you can now be notified if someone replies to one of your comments. For example, if you asked a question in the comments, wouldn’t you like to know if that question was answered? We thought so!

On that same note, you can now leave comments using your Facebook, Twitter, Google or Disqus account. You can still post anonymously if you’d like, but we are really looking forward to knowing the person behind the comments! Try it out, and let us know what you think.

Another big update we’re making is adding tags to our posts. This will make it much easier for you to find related blog posts, or posts about specific topics such as parenting, science, math and more. We think you’ll love the ability to discover the content that you want. You can find the most popular tags listed on the right side of each page. We'll be working behind the scenes to update all of our posts with the appropriate tags, so bear with us as we spend the time to update everything.

One last thing I want to mention is that we’re making an effort to replace all of the sharing tools on our blog. Many of you share our posts on Facebook, Twitter, via email and using many other services. However, it has been very difficult for us to find out which content is being shared the most, and therefore which content you find the most valuable.

Using a new sharing service, we can now keep better track of the posts you are sharing with family and friends. We hope to use this information to write more about the topics you’re interested in, so we encourage you to share any post you enjoyed – we will be listening! You'll find the new sharing button at the bottom of each post.

As I mentioned, there are a lot of changes going into this update, some of which I haven’t mentioned but you might notice anyway. I encourage you to test out some of the new features by leaving us a comment or clicking on the new share button when you enjoy one of our posts.

If you have any feedback on these changes, or any other things that you would like to see us do, please let us know in the comments below. And thank you for reading!
