End of Summer Roundup
I can’t believe it’s August. Here in Colorado, school starts in just a little over a week. We’ll do the traditional "school supply shuffle" where we review what supplies are still usable, and what we need to replenish. Where did summer go? Was your summer what you hoped it would be?
While I reflect on what a great summer this was, and what to look forward to in the coming school year, here are a few articles, posts, or just interesting links...
The Chronicle of Higher Education has an interview with George Veletsianos, author of the new book Emerging Technologies in Distance Education. The title of the article, “The Open, Social, Participatory Future of Online Learning" may make you wonder why they didn’t include apple pie? Professor Veletsianos has some great insights.
Inspire to Learn describes 9 warning signs for your e-learning model. To give you a taste, the first one is: You let your learning goals be defined more by your technology than by the actual learning and performance requirements. He’s got some pointed questions. I’m pleased that K¹² passes with flying colors.
Alexander Russo of This Week in Education asks you to confess your secret education crush: What (or who) is yours?
My son just told me about this Plagiarism t-shirt that reads, “Plagiarism: getting in trouble for something you didn’t do.” Hah!
Next week, I’ll be participating in the free online workshop: Get your ACT(FL) Together: Standards Based Language Instruction Via Social Media, sponsored by the Language Acquisition Resource Center. They will be discussing how to make the most of social media tools in the language classroom. They had me at “Language Instruction Via Social Media”. Will you be coming? Happy school year preparations!
